Tear stains are quite common and usually nothing to worry about! They appear as reddish-brown stains from the inside corner of the eye and are caused by tears draining onto the face instead of through the normal drainage system to the nose. The brown color comes from an iron-containing molecule called porphyrin found in tears.
Which puppies are more prone: Dogs with short noses, large eyes, flat faces, white fur, or tear duct variations are more likely to develop them – which is why you might notice them more on lighter-colored Dachshunds.
Prevention: Regular cleaning is key – keep hair around the eyes trimmed and clean the area twice daily with a damp washcloth.
For your Dachshund puppies, this is likely just a normal variation in their tear drainage system and mainly a cosmetic concern. Contact your vet if tear stains suddenly appear when they weren’t there before.
The differences between male and female puppies are often more about individual personality than gender, but here are some general tendencies:
Males tend to be slightly larger, more outgoing and attention-seeking, more playful throughout life, and sometimes more laid-back.
Females tend to be more independent, mature faster mentally, can be more focused, and are sometimes easier to housetrain.
The reality: Individual personality matters far more than gender. I’ve seen shy males and outgoing females – early socialization and training have much bigger impacts than whether they’re a boy or girl.
My recommendation: Focus on meeting the individual puppies and see which personality clicks with you. I’ll tell you about each pup’s specific temperament rather than worrying about gender – i’ll help you match you with the right companion based on your lifestyle and preferences.
What matters most is finding a puppy whose energy level and character complement your family!

Your puppy can go home at 8 weeks old. This is the ideal age as they’ve had enough time with mum and their littermates to develop proper social skills, while still being at the perfect age to bond with their new family and adapt to their new environment.
We aim to respond to all enquiries within 24-48 hours. We prefer to arrange phone appointments or video calls in the first instance to have a proper chat about what you’re looking for and to tell you about our available puppies. After our initial conversation, you’re more than welcome to arrange a visit to meet your potential little puppy in person. This approach helps us ensure the best possible match between puppy and family from the start.
You’re welcome to text us on +44 7860 572 902 or email us at datchiesoflondon@gmail.com.
